Your Family Tree - Dates & Details - Keep a Genealogy Resource File

Everyone knows that Portland is in Oregon, is not it? But did you know that in earlier times, was in Oregon areas? Hmm.? And when is a province of Saskatchewan, eh? These figures have over the states, provinces, counties and other events overwhelmed when you try to remember them all.? Not.? To start to monitor a file - either in your genealogical documents folder, or create a folder in your computer Genealogy Master folder with specific dates and locations to develop.?

For example, you need to know when your ancestors immigrated to the U.S. to determine where their research record.? Although you may think you know very much about Ellis, Iceland and immigration, did you know that for the screening of immigrants from these data is only used? - January 1.1892 to 1924 .???? However, more than 400,000 immigrants have been shown on the Barge Office (at the tip of Manhattan) in 1891 before the official immigration office was opened.? These data, 1892-1924, it would be useful to have in a handy form.? Before that time, Castle Garden (Castle Clinton) on the southern tip of Manhattan, New York City was to receive an immigrant in mid-August 1.1855 to 18 April 1890.? Search "U.S. immigration timeline" for more information and to seek, inter alia, as both Ellis Iceland and Castle Garden records.

Did your ancestors came to North America from another country? Ireland, for example? It would be helpful to know when the great famine happened in Ireland, (for "famine, Ireland")? and emigrate, where most Irish families arrived in Canada or the United States.? Or, if they landed the sea crossing to England, where they were then? If, after counting in England, did you know that many districts boundaries changed several times, especially after the 1974 Boundary Changes.? But some changes before that date.? A line of my family lived in the Midlands Black, and their city (Dudley) changed several times between the counties of Staffordshire and Worcestershire.? I was sure that others have counted the county wrong until I read an article in detail the various changes in boundaries found!? Search online for "British counties, changes" and you will find some excellent sites with information.?

You can imagine how important? This can help to search by state /province /country censuses!? I've learned to check on the cards, and look in the nearby districts, states, provinces, in researching an ancestor's residence in the course of time.? It helps to see is a map, the town near the capital have one of your ancestors.? People were moving by land opens up new opportunities but often, they moved only by a county boundary and are easy to find - if you know the counties border each other!

Here is an important point.? We're used to each event to register with the government, but was not the case of our ancestors in days.? Thus, for example, passenger lists not required, recorded and stored until 1865 in Canada, 1820 in the USA, in 1837 much of England.? In Germany, some important statistical applications began in 1792, others not until 1876, held by state differently, and not in a central repository.? In general, birth, marriage and death registrations were only required a state /county or state was formed, and was a center for records. The date of "vital statistics" is remarkable in the whole world differently, and you need to have the details for each location in order to successfully and efficiently search for your ancestors.

My personal resource file contains the following (based) on my particular ancestors:

All this makes your research more efficient and accurate, plus those resources you can use the correct citations from the sources you can find.? Enjoy your research! ?
