Video Biography and the Power of the Shared Experience

John Glenn's ticker tape parade down Broadway. Woodstock. Reggie Jackson three jaws-to-back homerun in World Series in 1977. The wedding of Lady Diana and Prince Charles. If you live in the quantity of or participation in any of these events, you shared an unforgettable experience with many others. And years later, when in idle chatter, it appears that both you and the stranger in the next flight you were part of the same event, you will discover a bond you never knew existed. Perhaps you will strike a friendship, at least you will part with a sense of kinship.

The same principle applies if you enter one of your relatives on video about a favorite family story or a piece of family history. But the effect can be much deeper.

Think about it. Perhaps one of the things you most enjoy meeting families is Hearer Uncle Harry family tell stories. It is not only the content of the story that gives you joy, but also hear and see Uncle Harry say they are: the rise and fall of his voice, the sparkle in his eyes, the way his hands dance through the air. Capture Uncle Harry tell these stories on video, and create a living, breathing, that you can for the coming years. Your grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren will be able to experience Harry's uncle as you have. They are her family from the "horse's mouth," instead of the fourth, fifth or sixth hand (or not). Perhaps they will recognize some of his behavior in it. You have a strong connection between the present and future generations, which in turn is a sense of connection and continuity with her family in the past - and with you.

?

This is powerful and deep stuff, and it is a video camera and it happened.
