Concept Development in Children Part 2 - What to Do When Concepts Are Slower to Develop

Teach the basics. That is the really important thing. If your child has not yet developed the concept of sounds together, to speak and can not even seem to hear the sounds within a word, you focus on it with the basic tools that they can use if the concept does develop .

Teach individual sounds of the alphabet (please teach them to write Q as "qu"). This means teaching the sounds are not the names of the sounds. If they watch Sesame Street, then hear the names of the sounds. It is important that they recognize that each sound has a name and a solid, but it is the sounds that we use when sounding out words. The vowels a, e, i, o, u are the exception. It is in order at this time to teach her that the sounds are formed into two groups - consonants and vowels. Against the oblivion of the vowels I often with this sentence - AE IOU $ 5 (Ay EI Du Owe $ 5) .

As you teaching her the sounds, they begin to teach simple words on flash cards. As you teach each, sound it out for them. It is great if they can learn the sounds for example. run = R-U-n. If the concept clicks in, then all these great behind her information on the use of the term immediately, and they will feel so CLEVER.

At at the same time to teach, write each sound. Please make sure that it is their letters in the right way. If the letters, it is important that they start at the right point and finish at the right point. First, it is clear to read. Secondly, if it does not do this, it will have to relearn the right method for forming the letter before they can progress to write in italics. Letters together only one way and if it's not begin and end it in the right place, they are not in a position to the letters together ordnungsgema later on.

In learning to write the sounds, by the repetition the supervision of the practice is the key. Immediate feedback for the child is essential to correct any errors, including children, before they become habit. Many children will want to write their letters in the way is the easiest way for them. You do not see the value of doing it in a special way. As long as it looks right at the end, they see no problem.

The intervention, as it's writing the sound. If it's not carefully observed during their practice, they may again, was the easiest for them. When the corrected later, three problems. It is often no way to tell which way the letters were. Each time, if the student forms of the letters the wrong way, that habit will be stronger and harder to break. The student feel that they wrongly punished if it has a recasting of lesson.

Once this is done, progress in the transmission of sound from more than one letter, like the "above" boat, the 'ay 'Days time, "ai" in e-mails, etc. As you teach this, the introduction of three or four-letter words, these sounds. On cards, write the word and underline the diagraph (Sounds of more than one letter) so that they learn to see the diagraph like a sound. You will get used to the appearance of sound, and it will help later with spelling.

Lastly if you read books to her, make sure they can see the page and how to read, follow the words with your finger . It will help her to realize that the stories are made by words. This is another concept that needs to develop.

I hope not too much information at once. One need only go one step at a time. It is important that both you and your students are relaxed. If you are uptight, it is so good and it is greatly limit their ability to exchange information. If the atmosphere is tense, with a break. Obtain the e-mail, have a snack, play with the dog for five minutes - everything that situation.

Don 't push if they are really angry because they do not understand -- Parents know the characters with their own child. To do something else and come back to, especially if you feel that they deal with him again. Insert it until the next day or the day after, if necessary. There is no rush.

One last point. Make jokes, things to say outrageous, had a good laugh. Laughter is a great relaxer and when your student is relaxed, your mind is open to learning. In addition, it helps to look forward to the times. Try to lay down the time to give it your full attention. Make it your special time together and between teaching certain things have little chats with her about her day. Tell her that something has happened. It is a great opportunity to bond.
